We are happy to share TLC2 Guidelines for Marsh Cone Test. This guideline specifies the procedure for determining the flow properties of the superplasticized cement paste, for both field and laboratory, by determining the time of efflux of a specified volume of fluid hydraulic cement grout through a standardized Marsh cone. The test method can also be used for determining the saturation dosage of the superplasticizer by evaluating the flow properties of the superplasticized cement paste and mortar using Marsh cone test.

Prof. Manu Santhanam named as the Surendra and Dorothie Shah Chair Professor at IIT Madras
The Surendra and Dorothie Shah Chair for Research on Sustainable Construction was launched at the Indian Institute of Technology Madras in 2021. The focus is on furthering cutting-edge research in the field of Civil Engineering materials. This is of huge significance due to the immense amount of construction work undertaken every year in India, with the volumes and expenditures continually increasing.
Prof. Surendra P. Shah, one of the foremost global experts in engineering materials, particularly concrete and other cement-based construction, chose IIT Madras to set up the Institute Chair. He has led the development of new advanced materials, which have become world standards in these fields, and his work revolutionized the way modern concretes are used worldwide. Prof. Surendra Shah currently serves as the Presidential Distinguished Professor, University of Texas, and Walter P. Murphy Emeritus Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Northwestern University. Mrs. Dorothie Shah is the founding President of the Indo American Museum, now called the National Indo American Museum, in Chicago.
Prof. Manu Santhanam will be the second occupant of the “Surendra and Dorothie Shah” Chair. He is currently the Dean of Industrial Consultancy and Sponsored Research at IIT Madras. He was appointed as an Institute Chair Professor of Civil Engineering earlier this year. He was also elected recently as a Fellow of the Indian National Academy of Engineering and RILEM Fellow since 2019. His research domains cover cement chemistry, and multi-scale characterization of concrete, including non-destructive testing, assessment of deterioration mechanisms in concrete and heritage structures, 3D printing of concrete structures, concrete durability, and use of supplementary cementitious materials. He leads the Centre of Excellence on Technologies for Low-Carbon and Lean Construction. The previous occupant of the chair was Prof. K. Ramamurthy, Department of Civil Engineering, who recently retired.
